Head Start
Head Start is a program designed to make sure the children of low-income and homeless families are fully prepared when it is time for them to start public school. The program provides pre-school education that meets nationally recognized standards; healthy, nutritious meals and snacks; and a variety of health services, including full services for children with disabilities. Head Start also provides family advocates to work with parents and assist them in finding and using community resources.
Head Start offers activities to help 3, 4, and 5-year-olds grow mentally, socially, emotionally and physically. Classroom activities encourage early learning and include drawing and painting, basic science activities, dancing, creating a love for books, enjoying and playing music, working with blocks or table toys, pretend housekeeping and learning how to share and play with other children in a group setting. They enjoy both indoor and outdoor activities in a safe setting. Children leave Head Start with confidence, an excitement about learning, and the skills they need to succeed in school.
The Head Start staff consists of loving, nurturing teachers who recognize that, as parents, you are the first and most important teachers of your children. Our staff welcomes your involvement in Head Start activities and will work with you to help your child progress.
